The Department of Posts is recruiting for Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) to fill vacant positions in Branch Post Offices (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM), and Dak Sevaks. This is an opportunity to work in rural areas and provide postal services to local communities.

Eligibility

  • 10th class pass candidates are eligible to apply.

Important Points

  • GDS are not regular government employees and their benefits are different. Their service conditions are governed by Department of Posts, Gramin Dak Sevaks (Conduct and Engagement) Rules, 2020.
  • Minimum work duration is 4 hours and maximum is 5 hours a day.
  • Age limit is 65 years.
  • Selected BPMs need to arrange accommodation for running the Branch Post Office at their own cost.

Job Profiles

  • Branch Postmaster (BPM): Manages day-to-day operations of the Branch Post Office and India Post Payments Bank (IPPB), markets departmental products and services, and supervises staff. They must reside in the village where the Branch Post Office is located.
  • Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM): Assists BPMs in postal operations, sells stamps and stationery, delivers mail, and performs other duties assigned by the BPM or superiors. They must reside within the delivery area of the Branch Post Office.
  • Dak Sevak: Sells stamps and stationery, delivers mail, performs IPPB transactions, and assists postmasters in managing departmental offices. They may also work in sorting offices and handle mail bags.
